“Cupid” in 5 – “Charming” April 8, 2009

1. Yes this is a re-do. Jeremy Piven had the same sitcom back in the day. But this one is way more charming, and it doesn’t include Cupid in a dirty diaper.

2. It is your typical rom-com series, chockful of cliches and non-reality love moments that anyone who loves rom-coms will adore. It can be endearing, and tug on even the bitterest singledom’s sentimentatlity, but it might not be enough to win over a Tuesday audience full of cop shows and murder dramas.

3. Since I love rom-coms, this is my new favorite series.

4. Sarah Paulson (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip), and Bobby Cannavale (Will and Grace) round out a very charming cast of people falling in love, trying to fall in love, or just trying to understand it.

5. It’s charming. There is no substance (yet), but it’s a nice break in my Tuesday night schedule of NCIS and The Mentalist. So hopefully, it will find it’s niche.

Tuesdays on ABC, 9pm

“Taking the Stage” in 5 or less March 20, 2009

1. “scripted” reality from the creators of…Nick Lachey. Hm…

2. Fame goes to Cinncinnati of the Performing Arts School. Yeah. Very original. Please see original “Fame”, “Save the Last Dance”, “Step Up”.

3. Entertaining if you’ve never seen a performing arts high school, when not making the musical or winning the talent competition makes for tears and reality tv. Sigh.

Catch it on MTV – Thursday 9.00pm.
Prediction: 1 season. Unless MTV is desperate. Nick Lachey doesn’t have Diddy’s money…

“Better Off Ted” in 5 or less… March 20, 2009

1. Kinda funny…as in I chuckled…a bit… Which is sometimes good, sometimes bad.

yeah, that’s all I got.

ABC  Wednesday at 7.30pm

Won’t survive the season.

“Kings” in 5 sentences or less March 15, 2009

1. Interesting concept…David slays Goliath and gets the keys to the kingdom…whether or not he actually wants it or knows what to do with it.

2. Very biblical…the main character “king” keeps writing his memoirs as they happen, as if he’s writing the bible…the city looks like a version of sci-fi Chicago.

3. Complex script…war hero saves king’s son, king gives hero new position of power, son of king not only disowned by his father for being gay, but now is in cahoots with king’s nemesis…who also is his financial adviser….king has a bastard child with the woman he loves, which happens to not be his wife, the queen, who likes to keep “out of politics”…war hero is after princess…and doesn’t fit into his new role, but then his brother dies in the war, and there is a very dramatic surrender scene… it’s all very complicated…but with great production value.

4. Might be a little too deep for Sunday nights, but….

5. …since it is followed by Celebrity Apprentice… if you get in too deep, you can always laugh at Tom Green and Dennis Rodman (until they get kicked off, that is…)

NBC – Sunday at 7.00pm

Might last if the budget wasn’t so high.
