I am a Pop Tart August 26, 2008

I love pop culture. Probably because part of me likes the escapist factor of it all, and part of me likes to know what is going on in the pop culture world. I know, I am well-educated (see my USC diploma), well-written (see my yet-to-be-published novel on teenage angst), and well-read (at least I still read the newspaper every now and again…). But i just like the trashiness aspect of it all.

Anyway, here is a website for all you fellow Pop Tarts…

Here’s a fun recap about a staged version of The Hills starring Janeane Garofalo…gotta love Hollywood!

And…have you noticed the buses plastered with Gossip Girl naked bodies? And how the critics’ negative words have been turned around by the marketing dept? Another in the “brilliant” ad campaigns (see I Hate Sarah Marshall)…the creator, however, is non-too-thrilled with this campaign…but this is why he is the creator and not the marketing dept. I think it is sleazy and provacative, but it still gets my attention all the same. That’s why I’m a pop tart.

Here’s this interview, courtsey of www.tvtattle.com another Pop Tart staple:

So, enjoy some Pop Tart with your morning joe. :)

I Hate Sarah Marshall…BRILLIANT! March 19, 2008

In the “why didn’t I think of that” category, I bring to you the brilliant marketing campaign that is FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL. Not sure about you, but the city is plastered with these black and white posters of the words “Sarah Marshall Sucks”, and a website to visit. I wouldn’t have noticed these at all, but the first time I saw the billboard, I was sitting in my car in the car wash line for 30 minutes, and, like the human curiousities we all have, wanted to get on the internet and see what this was all about.

So it turns out, it is a new movie coming in April…hilarious premise, starring that guy from How I Met Your Mother (conviently named Marshall) and Kirsten Bell of Veronica Mars fame…but that’s not even the point. The writer (that Marshall guy) has set up a teaser blog as the main character of his movie…and thus another advertising scheme is born…and another of those “why didnt I think of that so I could be rich and famous” ideas is crossed off my life list.

If you’re curious, which by now, human curiousity dictates it so, visit the website http://www.ihatesarahmarshall.com and for the real premise, visit http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0800039/
